Open Access Policy for University of Aalborg

The Board of Directors at Aalborg University (AAU) has decided to implement an Open Access Policy that applies to the entire body of scientific literature produced at the university. Thus, researchers are urged to work for free and open access to the university’s research. Aalborg University supports the recommendations of the Berlin Declaration and the Ministry of Science regarding Open Access, and supports the Open Access initiative for increased visibility and efficient communication and dissemination of the university’s research.

  • AAU publishes high-ranking research and aims at publishing through highly recognized publication channels

  • AAU wishes to create free access to the university’s research publications without any financial, legal or technical limitations
  • Publication in Open Access journals is recommended, whenever there are sufficiently high-ranking Open Access journals within the given scientific field of research
  • If there are no sufficiently high-ranking Open Access journals in the field, the researcher is urged to select a journal that allows parallel publication in VBN

  • If the researcher hands over his/her publication rights, he/she should at least consider keeping the right to parallel publication in VBN
  • AAU wishes full text access to all publications published in VBN
  • When a researcher adds a full text document to VBN, the copyright remains with the author(s).

This policy is drawn up in collaboration between the AAU Board of Directors, the AAU Open Access Committee and the VBN Editorial Office.

The VBN Editorial Office is responsible for the Open Access initiative at Aalborg University, and is committed to the development and operations of the initiative. Likewise, the VBN Editorial Office is responsible for giving advice and assisting university staff in all Open Access matters.
